ATMega Patio Light Jar

An overkill but functional approach to outdoor lighting with a mason jar and microcontroller.

I needed some outdoor lighting for evening balcony time. Rather than a full lantern or flashlight, I assembled a solution using spare components: an old mason jar, LEDs, resistors, perforated PCB, and an ATmega microcontroller.

The microcontroller choice was obviously a bit of overkill, but it works. The LEDs are arranged at different heights and facing different directions. The device cycles through lighting via PWM, creating a firefly-like visual effect.
